The committee decided in a special meeting last night (Sunday) on a date and time for opening bookings for our Guthega lodges, as well as dates and times for rounds 2 and 3 for all lodges. Those dates and times are included further down this message, as well as being published within the Booking Rules document that is published on the club website.
The club’s COVID Safe plan and Lodge Operations Guide are in a final draft state and are very nearly complete. We plan to meet this Thursday night to formally ratify those plans and decide to operate the lodges for winter 2020. Until that decision is made there is still the possibility that we will be unable to open the lodges, in which case all bookings will have to be cancelled.
Over the weekend we interviewed candidates for Guthega Lodge Manager and a backup manager and are currently completing contracts. We will announce details shortly. We plan for the managers to move into Tiobunga this weekend to assist with completing preparation for our modified operations for this winter.
Both Thredbo and Perisher require guests to purchase lift passes online prior to the day. No passes will be sold on the day. Thredbo has cancelled season passes and is offering day passes and multi day passes only this year. Perisher season passes (Epic Passes) are valid, with some restrictions early in the season. If you are planning to visit Perisher this year then I recommend that you read their plans, including pass information, at https://www.perisher.com.au/plan-your-trip/new-to-perisher/covid19-update. There is a good article discussing the plans at https://www.snowsbest.com/breaking-vail-resorts-announce-changes-for-perisher-hotham-falls-for-2020/.
Thredbo’s lift pass sales opened at noon last Thursday. They experienced extreme demand and people wanting to buy experienced long wait times at opening and for about a day afterwards, with many days throughout the season appearing to sell out. However by Saturday, and when I checked after 8 am this morning (Monday 15 June), it was possible to get straight in to their online shop and there were tickets available for every day of the season.
Perisher season passes (Epic Passes) are valid this year with unlimited access to the resorts from 13 July, with reservations required prior to that date. Perisher has Epic Passes on sale up until 28 June, for $889. For those without Epic Passes, sales of passes for 3+ consecutive days go on sale from 8:30 am Tuesday 16 June. Individual day passes will go on sale later.
Perisher has advised on https://www.perisher.com.au/plan-your-trip/new-to-perisher/covid19-update that Epic Pass holders not wishing to ski this year may request a refund by Friday 19 June.
We experienced the quietest bookings opening in years when we opened for bookings in Waragun. As I write, 43 members have booked and there are still beds available in Waragun every week except for one week of the July school holidays.
Round 1 bookings for Tiobunga and Kyilla will open at 8:00 pm on Wednesday 17 June. This is after Perisher opens their multi-day pass sales and before the final date for Epic Pass refunds or sales. Rounds 2 and 3 for all lodges will open at 9:00 am on Sunday 21 June and Sunday 28 June respectively.
Before you book, please re-read the email from prior to bookings opening for Waragun to remind yourself of how the club will operate this year. That email is published on our website at https://brindabellaskiclub.org.au/waragun_bookings_opening/.
We will advise you as soon as we have published the club’s COVID Safe plan and Lodge Operations Guide. Please take the time to read these documents.
The Lodge Operations Subcommittee and the Committee will be meeting frequently during the winter to review lodge operations in light of the rapidly evolving COVID situation including restrictions from Government. We hope to be able to ease restrictions in lodge operations but recognise the possibility of needing to tighten them, including the possibility that we will be forced to close and cancel all bookings. We will keep you informed.
We appreciate your understanding and patience.
