Membership

Membership of Brindabella Ski Club is highly valued by many people who enjoy the camaraderie with other members, love the mountains and are willing to chip in constructively to make the club work.

Membership is on an individual basis. There is no family membership and no benefit available to family of members. If a family wishes to make bookings in member only booking rounds then all the people in the family need to be members in their own right.

Membership Classes

Full Member

Full Members enjoy the full privileges of membership including full booking privileges, with Full Adult members also enjoying the right to vote at General Meetings and serve on the committee.

Summer Member

Summer Members have booking privileges and costs equivalent to Full Members outside of winter, reduced winter booking privileges and pay more for winter bookings compared to Full Members and may not vote or serve on the committee. The differences in booking privileges and accommodation rates are detailed on the Booking Information page.

Christie Member

At membership renewal time each year, a Full Member may apply to transfer to Christie Membership. Christie Members pay reduced annual membership fees. They have reduced winter booking privileges and pay more for winter bookings and may not vote or serve on the committee. The differences in booking privileges and accommodation rates are detailed on the Booking Information page. In these ways they are similar to Summer Members however there is an important difference. Christie Members have been Full Members in the past and have paid the Full Member joining fee. They may apply to transfer back to Full Membership at membership renewal time each year, with no joining fee to pay. The committee considers all applications to transfer between Full and Christie membership.

Member Ages

Within each class of membership outlined above there are:

  • Adult: 18 years or over as of 1 January in the membership year
  • Junior: under 18 years as of 1 January in the membership year
  • Sub-Junior: under 3 years as of 1 January in the membership year

Joining

Joining members pay a Joining Fee and an Annual Membership Fee in their first year, then an Annual Membership Fee at membership renewal in November every year. Fees are detailed in the document below.

Adult

An adult wishing to join the club as either a Full Member or Summer Member must be nominated by two Full or Life Members who must provide references. Nominations for membership are normally invited in January with successful applications able to complete their joining process in time for full participation in winter bookings that year.

Full Adult Membership is currently fully subscribed. Any availability of new Full Adult memberships depends on how many people give up Full Adult Membership and how many Juniors become Adults. About a dozen new applicants are accepted in a typical year. Preference is given to immediate family of existing members, people who have stayed in the club and who have participated in a work party, as we’ll as people who can demonstrate an understanding of the ethos of the club and show a willingness to contribute.

Junior

Children of Adult Members may join at any time by application by their parent or legal guardian. Joining and Annual Membership Fees are detailed in the Membership Fees document below. Juniors who turn 18 must pay an Upgrade Fee as detailed in the fees document below in the year when they are 18 as of 1 January in order to retain their membership.

Sub-Junior

Very young children of Adult Members may be joined at any time as Sub-Juniors by application to the Admin Manager. Joining and annual membership is free for Sub-Junior aged members. Sub-Juniors who turn 3 must pay an Upgrade Fee as detailed in the fees document below in the year when they are 3 as of 1 January in order to retain their membership.
