Farewell Debra Davie

Debra Elizabeth Davie

10 April 1959 – 29 March 2021

Long term member Debbie Davie passed away on 29 March after a short battle with a brain tumour.  Debbie and her husband Ross McKay gained club membership in 1986 and became fixtures in the Guthega lodges from then until the pandemic curtailed their skiing last year.

Debbie spent several years on the committee, initially as minute secretary and then as secretary in the aftermath of the Thredbo landslide disaster.  During this period she spent an inordinate amount of time collating and recording almost 50 years of club records into a database to assist in the club’s legal proceedings.

Debbie loved her skiing – her knees not so much and it was a familiar sight after the lifts closed to see Debbie with her legs up, ice packs on both knees and drink in hand.  However, the knees never seemed bad enough to prevent her hitting the dance floor if the music started up later in the evening!

Apart from her slightly incongruous passions of ballet and Formula 1, Debbie was a keen and accomplished photographer and would always have her camera in hand at club functions and in the lodges.

Debbie loved the mountains in all seasons and always felt as though she was home when she arrived in Guthega.  Her smile, wit and love of life will be sadly missed.
